Burlington D.A.R.E. Officers


Officer Steve Cross

 Steve joined the Burlington Police Department in 1983 after earning a Bachelor’s Degree at Northeastern University’s College of Criminal Justice. He began his career with full-time cadet/intern positions with the Concord and Cambridge Police Departments and as a Special Police Officer in Burlington. Steve has been a D.A.R.E. Officer since 2003 and instructs the program to K-8 students in the Memorial, Francis Wyman and Marshall Simonds Schools. He is also a certified Instructor in both the radKIDS and RAD programs. Steve also screens police officer candidates in his role as a personnel background investigator. He currently serves as President of the Burlington Police Patrolman’s Association and is a member of the Burlington Drug and Alcohol Task Force. Steve is married to his wife Linda and has two sons, Devin and Ben. In his spare time he likes to golf, hike, swim and study American History.

Officer Keith D. Sheppard

Keith joined the Burlington Police Department in October of 1998 after working eight years in the communications industry.  He began his career in law enforcement 1987 as a special police officer and became a permanent intermittent police officer in 1990.  He has serves as a Patrol and School Resource Officer and is a certified EMT-B.  Keith was appointed as a D.A.R.E. Officer in September of 2004.  He currently instructs students in drug and violence prevention at Fox Hill, Pine Glen and Marshall Simond’s Middle School.  Keith represents the police department on various committees.  He is a member of the Honor Guard, Burlington Drug and Alcohol Task Force and The Patrolman’s Executive Board.  He also serves as a certified Public Information Officer, Alcohol Server Registrar, RAD and radKIDS Instructor.  Officer Sheppard has been married for eleven years to his wife, Christine, and has three great kids, Samantha, Jessica and Richard.  Keith has spent the last five years building his own home here in Burlington.  He enjoys sports, outdoor activities and spending time with his family.
